Creative Skill Set is an informative website indicating multiple job titles available within the animation sector. I am particularly ineterested in 2D traditional/Digital animation or Stop-Motion Animation. I also feel confident in more tactile and crafting elements, which further my emploability extending further outside the animation industry.
These are some of the available jobs that are posted on the Skill Set website and I am particularly interested in, I have also noted down some information about the specific role and what it requires.
Animator (2D computer animation)
A 2D computer animator role requires good animation and acting skills, a good sense of graphic design and a competent knowledge of computer software such including Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Flash and Cel Action. I feel I tick all of these boxes and have a very good sense of computer software. I enjoy 2D animation as opposed to 3D because it feels more personal and hand created by the artist themselves, rather than CG where the artist is telling the software what they want. This role is not at an entry-level standard, but can be entered by showing talen in general 2D art and storyboarding etc.
Assistant Animator (Stop Motion Animation)
An assistant Stop Motion animtor requires a good sense of movement and timing together with great sculpting skill. They also need to have good organisation, keeping close attention to detail and be able to clean up models or puppets during shooting. I feel this is a good job role for me because stp motion animation is one of my favourite methods, but also because I feel I am a very organised person and always keep attention to detail. Because I have a crafty and tactile approach to my work, I feel stop motion animation is perfectt, because it requires working with a model up close. Because this is an assistant animator role, it is an easier level to start off in and generaly requires a Degree in animation, fine art, sculpture, graphics, ilustration or other related subjects.
Junior Model Maker
A Junior Model Maker is required to have a keen interest in model making along with some relevant skills, a high level of various craft skills combine with artistic abilities and to posess a competant knowldge in the use of a wide range of materials. This is one of my preferred job options because it looks for the majority of skills that I enjoy and have to offer. I am a very creative and crafty person that love making material objects with my own hands. Specifically I would enjoy creating prop models and clothing using a range of textiles and other materials rather than the animation puppets themselves. This is an entry-level role and requires a degree in animation, art or design or other related training.
