For our MD6002 brief we are studying Film Noir and the techniques involved with the genre/style. Qualities corresponding with a film noir genre or style, typically involve contrasts of light and dark tones, playing with the characters personalities and motives. Other conventions include a plot revolving around police or investigative work, crime, or murder.

The name itself "Film Noir" meaning black film, could refer to either the use of heavy shadowing and lack of light within the film or the violent theme in general. The more shadows and smoke used on particular characters, the more mystery it conveys and suspicion it arouses for the audience. Guns, shadows, smoke, reflections, crime and sexual arousal are all key elements to film noir.
